Minneapolis Remodel

The challenge

This 1940s Minneapolis home had aged into a dark, closed-in floor plan. The bathrooms wore honey-oak vanities, heavy wood shutters, small square wall tile, and tired plank floors, and the compact original layout kept daylight from reaching the vanity and tub.

Our approach

We took the home back to a clean shell and rebuilt it room by room. The bathrooms were reworked around brighter, more durable finishes — white subway tile, walnut vanities, black fixtures, and hexagon floors — keeping the original window openings for daylight.

The results

The bathrooms came back bright and current. White subway tile with black trim replaced the small square tile, walnut vanities and matte-black faucets replaced the oak, and a glass tub shower under a papered ceiling finished the space.

Project type: residential renovation and remodel. Style direction: brighter and more contemporary, while keeping the home’s 1940s character.

This Minneapolis remodel set out to lighten a 1940s home without erasing what made it feel like one. Dark floors, honey-oak cabinetry, and heavy wood shutters had closed the rooms in over the years, so the plan opened the common areas, gave the kitchen white counters with more surface to catch the light, and took the bathrooms down to the studs for a full rebuild.

The bathrooms show the change most directly. Small square tile and oak vanities gave way to white subway tile with black trim, walnut slat vanities, matte-black fixtures, and black hexagon floors, while the original windows stayed to carry daylight deeper into each room. Running the whole house as one project — the same crew from demolition through the final finishes — is the pattern behind our remodel and restoration work in Minneapolis: nothing waits on a handoff.
