Lightning Fire Restoration

The challenge

Lightning struck this three-story home, sending fire up the exterior and into the attic and eaves. Soot coated the kitchen cabinets and smoke traveled through the main floor, while the water used to fight the flames soaked the flooring throughout.

Our approach

The fire and smoke damage restoration doubled as a remodel. With the main floor already opened up, we took down the dining room wall for an open-concept kitchen, expanded the layout for more seating, and ran new luxury vinyl plank flooring across the level.

The results

The rebuilt kitchen anchors a bright, modern farmhouse great room — a waterfall-quartz island, glass pendants, and a vented hood where the over-range microwave used to hang. Open dining flows to a refreshed living room with a restored fireplace under the vaulted ceiling.

Cause of loss: a lightning strike set the house on fire, with water damage from putting it out. Style direction: modern farmhouse, warm, open.

Lightning hit the three-story home and sent flames up the side and into the attic and eaves. Soot settled into the kitchen cabinets and the water used to fight the fire soaked the main-floor flooring, so a full kitchen became the starting point rather than a patch-and-paint repair.

Because the framing was already open, the rebuild became the moment to change the layout. Taking down the dining room wall turned a closed kitchen into an open great room with a larger island and more seating, and new luxury vinyl plank flooring carries through the main level. It is the kind of fire and smoke damage restoration that leaves a home better than it was before the loss.
