Front Porch Fire Damage Restoration

01

The challenge

A fire started in the front porch of this older Twin Cities home and burned into the structure, destroying the porch, scorching the exterior stucco and roof edge, and pushing smoke and soot through the kitchen, stairwell, living room, and upstairs bedrooms.

02

Our approach

We secured the property first, boarding up the front entry and damaged windows, then removed the fire-damaged porch structure and affected interior finishes and worked through soot and smoke remediation room by room — one team from emergency board-up through finish carpentry.

03

The results

The porch where the fire started was rebuilt as a light-filled sunroom with wraparound windows and a vaulted ceiling. The original hardwood floors were saved and refinished, the small kitchen reworked for storage, and the exterior stucco, trim, and windows restored to match the home's era.

Cause of loss: fire that started in the front porch. Style direction: modern, earthy, minimalist.

This older home in the Twin Cities mixes what’s old and new, with plenty of wood and urban-modern elements that add a warm, contemporary feel. Saving the existing hardwood floors and refinishing them to a natural stain brightened the whole house — the kind of detail that’s worth protecting rather than tearing out.

Restoring the front porch where the fire started turned the worst part of the loss into the best room in the house: it’s now the spot to sit and take in the daylight coming through the wraparound windows and tall vaulted ceilings. The small kitchen got close attention too, reworked to create as much storage and functional space as possible for the family.
