Dryer Fire Restoration

The challenge

A pleather jacket broke down against the dryer's heat and pushed melted plastic through the drum and up the exhaust vent. Smoke and residue carried into the laundry room, leaving the appliances unusable and the finishes needing far more than a wipe-down.

Our approach

We cleared the smoke and plastic residue, pulled the damaged appliances, and opened the walls where the odor had traveled. With the room already open, the finishes were rebuilt rather than patched — new cabinetry, counters, and a tiled sink wall planned into the restoration.

The results

The laundry room came back brighter and more usable. White stacking washers and dryers sit against a black three-dimensional geometric tile, which now runs behind the laundry sink to guard against splashes, with a folding counter and hanging storage kept within reach.

Cause of loss: a dryer fire — a pleather jacket broke down against the heat and sent melted plastic through the dryer and up the exhaust vent. Style direction: contemporary, sleek, neutral.

The trouble started inside the dryer and left with the smoke. Melted plastic and odor moved through the drum, into the exhaust run, and out into the laundry room, so the work went well past the appliance — the machines and the finishes both had to be handled before the room could be used again.

Because the walls were already open, the space was rebuilt rather than patched. White stacking washers and dryers went back in against a black three-dimensional geometric tile that now carries behind the laundry sink to shrug off splashes, with a folding counter and hanging storage kept close. It is the kind of fire and smoke restoration where the repair is also the moment to make the room work better than it did before.
